Two major funding wins!

We are so thrilled to announce that Garfield Super Block has recently been allocated funds from two important sources.

The first is that GSB was included in the latest Metropolitan Parks District budget as part of the Equity Park Development Fund. The final grant amount has yet to be determined, but these dollars will add a substantial amount to the construction funding and will fund our coaltion capacity needs through 2023. We are grateful for the enthusiastic support of City Council Members Mosqueda, Sawant, Morales, and Strauss and for their fantastic staff for all their help. This could not have happened without your community voices speaking on behalf of this project.

Our second bit of exciting news is that the GSB project was awarded a $475,000 grant from the Seattle Department of Transportation's Neighborhood Street Fund. These dollars will address the uneven sidewalks and crumbling curbs on Cherry Street and 25th Avenue bordering Garfield Park. Coalition members Karen Estevenin and Robert Stephens applied for this grant over 4 years ago! The timing should work out nicely with the overall project, tying a nice bow on the park improvements with brand new sidewalks and other pedestrian safety improvements.

With these two new funding sources, we are well over half way to our funding goal! We have made great strides this year and the project is on track to start construction in 2024!
